RE: Newbe to towing --Towing a 1997 Jeep wrangler

No, the transmission must be in gear to prevent them from turning. I recollect that the book says second, but some pull in fourth. That is in the event something happens you don't over speed the engine.

RE: Jayco 7 Way Connector

Get a standard round RV blade type connector to four flat adapter(?). Roadmaster's cables use four round. You can buy a four round to 7 blade rv adapter. Bargman or Pollack makes these adapters.

RE: Thumb locks for storage compartments?

Most RV stores should have them in stock or can order them. The measurement is the lenght of the threads in most cases. Some come with two different styles, straight and offset, of assemblies to adjust closer. Doors like the electric and water ussually take the 5/8, compartment doors will vary. Suggest taking the old ones out and make a list of what you need. Maybe take sample to store of each one.

RE: What Spark Plug?

I would check, better, replace the plug wires with high temperature ones. Suggest using the Champion truck plugs as they are designed for higher combustion chamber temperatures that surround a MH engine compartment. Have you checked the mechanical advance in the distributor, if equiped?

RE: GENERATOR BREAKER KEEPS TRIPPING

I would suggest checking the generator circuit to the transfer switch for a loose connection. Check both the phase conductors and the neutral(s).

RE: what kind of battery?

I would suggest two 6 volt golf cart batteries wired in series for most applications. If you do a lot of dry camping then use four wired in series-parallel. Golf cart batteries are about as close as you are going to get to true deep cycle.

RE: Start Boost

A "deadfront" is a metal shield to protect electrical equipment. Remove the cover and you could be dead. Old terminology, but is still used. Look closely above the batteries for a couple screws holding a metal plate. Sometimes you can reach under and feel for equipment.

RE: towing questions

Four down costs about the same overall as Dolly. Trailer in my mind is out of the questions. Suggest if you do go dolly route, that you install hitch on toad to make it easy to move dolly around and if you run into problems with coach.

RE: Start Boost

Should be in the battery control center under the hood on drivers side in most cases where batteries are under the hood. Located behind dead front if batteries are located under entry steps. Operate battery disconnects and boost switch as noted above to locate.

RE: Water heater leak

It could be coming from somewhere else! How close it to the toilet? The water valves like to leak on many Thetford toilets.

RE: Alltel broadband

Alltel and Verizon maybe merging. We have Verison wireless cell and Aircard. When we have two bars on cell we are stronger on the aircard. Haven't had problems with aircard through much of the country.

RE: Water heater leak

Atwood tanks are aluminum. I would guess you have a bad water line connection at the tank. Do you have a winter bypass? That could be leaking at he connections. Either item will require access to the rear of the tank. There maybe some form of access on the rear, if not you will have to pull the tank from outside.

RE: V-10 Ford, Chassis Power Switch Doesn't Work

I forgot that the clicking you here could be a circuit breaker. Listen close and locate it.

RE: Oil prices still dropping like a rock, plus now speculators

"American made" must be including all of North and South America. Much of the big three is made in Brazil and Mexico. Maybe final assembly in the US, but hardly US made.

RE: V-10 Ford, Chassis Power Switch Doesn't Work

The battery control center should not, at least not suppose to, disable the chassis. The engine should crank and fire. The battery control center shuts down only coach manufacturer installed items. I would look for the starter relay on the Ford chassis. Check for power there. There should be a fuse link coming off the battery side of the relay that provides power to the chassis installed fuse block and the ignition. Check your ground from the battery while you are there.

RE: Is Fleetwood Next

Call or e-mail Fleetwood directly. Your dealer may be the problem. You may even post here what your problem is and get some help.

RE: Tow Bar Position

Please post make and model of tow bar, toad and MH. While doing this check the elevation of tow bar between the toad and MH. It should be close to level. 4 up and 6 down rings a bell. Excessive elevation change can cause problems. Light suspension on some toads with a toad mounted tow bar can cause problems.

RE: Battery Switch

I would get a relay and run a control set of wires to the interior of the coach at a convenient location. The relay should be mounted close to the battery. The control circuit should be fused and come right off the battery side of the relay. Yes, a standard relay draws a small amount of power. You could opt for a latching relay which is mechanically held to reduce this draw. This type of relay is shown in many catalogs and online at Intellitec.com. The mechanically held requires a little different control circuit then electrically held.

RE: Strange electrical problem w/Genset

Start by disconnecting the remote start cable. Could be a bad switch. This will show whether problem is the circuit board in the genset or the remote switch and or cable. Search here for Gunny357. He is very sharp on gensets.
